‘Life always reflects back at us that which we hold true about ourselves’
Do I feel unloved? Then I will experience not being loved, no matter how other people see me. Do I feel like a bad person or poor? Then I will find ways to blame myself or things I cannot pay.
The action in the opposite direction confirms my true belief in the feeling I’m trying to leave behind.
You turn this around not by going against these feelings and trying to undo them. If I were to feel inadequate and try to compensate for this by always going 100 extra miles, I will not only burn out (and definitely become inadequate to accomplish the things I want; I.e. self-fulfilling prophecy). I will also confirm to myself that I really am inadequate and have to do something to compensate for this. The action in the opposite direction confirms my true belief in the feeling I’m trying to leave behind.
And actions can influence our belief systems. Either by reinforcing or changing them. So if we want to think different about ourselves, one way of doing this is to take different actions, which our belief systems have no other choice but to follow.
Only, we do this not by going against an old belief system or something we don’t want. We decide who we are now, which in this case is the same as who we want to be. We know ourselves to be it and then do everything that would do.
You are life itself
If you are looking for love,
Then looking for love is what you’ll find
If you’re looking for happiness,
Then you’ll find the looking for happiness
If you are love and happiness,
Then you’ll find them both everywhere.
